Hey Ladies, are you a fan of the Old West, with its rugged cowboys, daring outlaws, and thrilling shootouts? Do you love the idea of dressing up in period-correct costumes and stepping back in time to an era of adventure and excitement? Then the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) might be just the group for you!
SASS is an international organization that promotes the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting, a shooting sport that involves using period-correct firearms, costumes, and props to recreate the look and feel of the Old West. With over 100,000 members worldwide, SASS is the largest and most active organization of its kind.
But what makes SASS special, especially for female members? For starters, it's a great way to meet like-minded people who share your love of the Old West and the shooting sports. SASS members come from all walks of life and include men and women of all ages and backgrounds. Many SASS clubs also host social events, such as picnics, barbecues, and potlucks, where members can get to know each other and share their experiences.
Another benefit of SASS is the opportunity to learn new skills and improve your marksmanship. Cowboy Action Shooting involves shooting at a variety of targets, from steel plates to cardboard cutouts, using a range of firearms, such as revolvers, lever-action rifles, and shotguns. It requires a combination of speed, accuracy, and strategy, as well as the ability to reload quickly and safely. SASS clubs often offer training and practice sessions, as well as competitions and matches, where members can put their skills to the test.
But perhaps the biggest reason for women to join SASS is the chance to have fun and express their creativity. Cowboy Action Shooting is not just a shooting sport; it's also a form of historical reenactment and cosplay. SASS members often dress up in elaborate period costumes and accessories, such as corsets, bloomers, hats, and boots, and adopt Old West personas with colorful names and backstories. It's a chance to step out of your everyday life and become someone else for a day, to immerse yourself in a world of adventure, romance, and danger.
Of course, joining SASS can also be a bit intimidating, especially for women who may feel like they're entering a male-dominated world. But SASS is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members, regardless of gender, race, or background. Many SASS clubs have active women's groups and mentors who can help new female members feel more comfortable and confident. There are also special categories and competitions for women, such as "Ladies' Duelist" and "Ladies' Frontier Cartridge".
So, if you're looking for a new adventure, a chance to meet new people, and a way to express your love of the Old West, consider joining the Single Action Shooting Society. With its unique blend of history, shooting sports, and cosplay, it's a wild ride you won't forget anytime soon!
