The mission of the SASS Scholarship Foundation is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving SASS members in pursuit of higher education. SASS Scholarships are awarded based on character, personal merit, and commitment to the shooting sports - particularly Cowboy Action Shooting. Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, on the shooting range, extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed.
The Single Action Shooting Society had tinkered with the idea of creating a scholarship program for junior members of the organization, and the SASS Scholarship Foundation was formed in 1999 after receiving a letter of encouragement and a commitment for a donation of the first $1000 from SASS members and Hall of Fame Inductees Deaf Laws, SASS #6889 and Aimless Annie, SASS #6890. The rest, as they say is history.
The SASS Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt corporation dedicated to providing financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving SASS members in pursuit of higher education. One-year scholarships in various amounts from $500-$3000 are awarded annually. Applicants are not limited to a college or university attendance- the SASS Scholarship supports trade school applicants as well.
Contributions and donations are accepted from members, affiliated clubs, annual matches, sponsors and other concerned parties and philanthropic organizations. In addition to fund raisers, raffles and other programs, SASS encourages all members and affiliated clubs to take part in this important effort by helping to raise funds for the SASS Scholarship Foundation.
To be eligible to apply for consideration for a scholarship from the SASS Scholarship Foundation, the following criteria must be met:
1- Applicant must be an active SASS member (and have been for at least one year).
2- Applicant must be accepted or enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution of higher education actively pursuing an academic or trade discipline.
