The original Regulators in Lincoln County, New Mexico were a legally constituted and deputized posse, with warrants and affidavits issued by Justice of the Peace John Wilson and led by Special Constable Dick Brewer, John Tunstall's ranch foreman. The Regulators' primary directive was to hunt for the killers of John Tunstall. That was in 1878.
One hundred and forty one years later, the Lincoln County Regulators are now the Cowboy Action Shooting arm of the Ruidoso Gun Club and an affiliate of the Single Action Shooting Society, known as SASS. Special Constable of the Lincoln County Regulators is John Chisum SASS# 97962. Mayor of Old Lincoln and first Deputy is Bad Deal SASS# 103334.
The Lincoln County Regulators have a "movie set" type village and host a monthly Cowboy Action Shooting match on the second Saturday of every month in the village of Old Lincoln located in the Ruidoso Gun Club shooting range. The Ruidoso Gun Club's location is on Hale Lake Road one half mile off Highway 70 in Ruidoso Downs, NM. We have developed a premier shooting range for Cowboy Action Shooting. Most of the buildings in Old Lincoln represent the historic town of Lincoln where Billy the Kid was known to frequent.
