Having an idle moment, and for some odd reason my thoughts are wandering ahead to the Kid's birthday several months down the road. And of course Christmas... pondering gifts of a nice safety razor and supplies. :)

So... experience and recommendations~? Razor... blades... soaps... brush... and of course Bay Rum...?  B)

After many years of doing it wrong, I stuck a mirror on the shower door and shave at least once a week whilst showering. Use Dial bar soap.

So, to complete your gift, get him a  http://www.amazon.co...t?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Run warm water on it before shaving to defog it.

Well, not sure about getting a straight razor, but a mug, Badger bristle brush, some cup soap and perhaps some lilac water for the ladies.

I tried a stright razor once, could never get the hang of it. I do use a mug and a brush. Works better than canned shaving cream.

I get my razors from the dollarshaveclub.com For 6 bucks a month they will mail you 4 cartridges. same quality as national brands, and way cheaper.

I shave using a shaving brush and soap mug.

I bought a nice Badger Bristle shaving brush.  The brush is the most expensive item but its well worth the cost for a nice badger bristle brush that is made with real badger hair.  The badger hair holds the lather well, feels nice on the skin, and rinses out well.  I rinse the brush by holding it under the water to wash out all the soap, then give it a couple of shakes to get the water out, and it's amazing how dry the badger bristles are after the flips.

For safety razor, I use the three blade disposable type.

I have a green plastic shaving mug that won't break in my travel kit.  Broke a ceramic one while on travel.  Airlines are hard on luggage.

For soap, I've found that Dove bath bar soap produces and real nice lather and moisturizes the skin.

Last year I switched to the Merkur Long Handled Double edge safety razor, using Feather Hi-Stainless double edge blades, Geo F Trumper wooden bowl shaving soap and a Silvertip Badger brush.

I'll switch to a cut-throat razor sometime next year - but I'm finding that this shaves pretty darn nice and I'm not sure I can get smoother or closer without donating skin and blood!

Last night they were profiling a guy who collected MUSTARD on the Discovery Channel.

You guessed it, he shaves with MUSTARD.

Different brands and types depending on his mood.

Claims it does his skin a world of good.

I imagine he goes out smelling like a hot dog.

I bought an old Gillette double edge safety razor at an estate sale for $1.  Double edge blaes are 10 for $2.50 at WalMart.  Inexpensive shave.
