Lady LaSalle, SASS #46421 and Shotglass, SASS #17153

Do you have a favorite dress that is hanging in your closet right now that you can't wear anymore?  Maybe its ripped, or something was spilled on it and now its stained, or the dress has mysteriously shrunk (or at least that's the excuse I'm going to use)?  Or maybe you've just worn it so much that you're simply tired of it and looking for a change.  Fashionable ladies during the Victorian times had these same concerns, plus their styles kept changing.  How does one keep up on a budget in the 1800's?  Find out how these resourceful ladies did it, and how I took a page out of their book and saved one of my own beloved dresses with this fun and information filled class!  I look forward to seeing you there!

Captain George Baylor, SASS #24287

The “black art” of using blackpowder has been simplified by the introduction of simple to use blackpowder substitutes such as American Pioneer Powder, and by the introduction of Goex Cowboy, a true blackpowder optimized for Cowboy Action Shooting™.  These products have resulted in an explosion in the numbers of shooters in the blackpowder categories, but tales of complicated loading and cleaning of blackpowder firearms have scared off many potential shooters.  Captain Baylor, who was chosen by Cowboys TV to teach blackpowder on air, explores the available blackpowder substitutes and simple ways to use them successfully, including simple loading techniques for rifle, pistol, shotgun, and percussion pistols and some quick and easy methods for cleaning guns after using the substitutes.  For those who want to use “real” blackpowder, he discusses simple procedures for using Goex Cowboy and other “holy” blackpowder.  He discusses the store bought ammunition available.  He shows which of the substitutes is hottest, and which give the most accuracy.  He describes an easy method for the care and feeding of percussion pistols, and he has several suggestions for making your percussion pistols as reliable as cartridge pistols.  Captain Baylor shows how to make it easy.

Authentic Men's Costumes
Captain George Baylor, SASS #24287

Using 19th century photographs, paintings, and catalogs, Captain Baylor explores how cowboys, lawmen, “townies,” and outlaws actually dressed as opposed to how the movies thought they dressed.  Since real cowboys rode all day while SASS Cowboys run 10-yard dashes with guns and walk a lot, Captain Baylor explores comfort and practicality as well as authenticity.  If your boots resemble medieval torture devices after several hours at END of TRAIL, he has several ideas for boots that look appropriate but are comfortable.
Some myths will be shattered, others proven to be true.  Various accoutrements will be put into their proper time period so you can look like a cowboy of 1875 or a banker of 1890.
If you want to attend the ball and look appropriately dressed for a formal occasion in 1881, Captain Baylor has details of what gentlemen wore to parties in the nineteenth century.  Ladies, you might want to attend and bring your husband along so he will be as well dressed at the ball as you are!
Over 200 photographs and drawings are used to demonstrate every facet of 19th Century men’s western clothing with practical suggestions for making your shooting costume authentic and comfortable.  Captain Baylor has several tips for winning costume contests, including sources for some hard to find items.  If you are afraid of facing the costume contest judges, he can help.

Captain Baylor has won numerous SASS costume contests including END of TRAIL, Winter Range, the SASS Convention, and several Regional and State Championships.  He has also acted as judge at costume contests at the SASS Convention, END of TRAIL, Winter Range, and numerous other events.
